Some ask: “What is the sound of one hand clapping?” Billy Jonas asks: “What is the sound of 600 sets of keys jingling on the downbeat? And how shall we inspire the audience to do it?” For 25 years, Billy Jonas — performer, singer-songwriter, composer, multi-instrumentalist, and educator — has perfected the art of the neo-tribal hootenanny* with audiences around the globe. Using voice, guitar, and industrial re-percussion, each concert is a soul-spelunking, heart-healing, joy-filled journey. His upbeat, engaging presence encourages active audience participation. His concerts are a magical mix of stagecraft and wholesome, open-ended, anything-can-happen spontaneity.
He has received numerous honors and awards, including an American Federation of Independent Musicians 1st Place/Gold, multiple Parents Choice Golds, and a New York Times “Best” listing. He currently tours with the Billy Jonas Band, which was honored with an invitation to perform at the White House in 2010.
“Our musical mission: to honor and empower the creativity, inherent intelligence, and desire to learn in young folks, as well as their elders; to inspire them, apart and together, to question and play — and to see these two things as inseparable pathways to joy.” – Billy
(The last time Billy Jonas was featured at the Tucson Folk Festival’s Children’s Show, there was standing room only! Plan to arrive early to see his fun-filled, enjoyable performance!)
Billy will also be conducting a workshop, “Neo-tribal Songwriting,” on Sunday, May 7, 2017 at 4:00 pm. in the enclosed courtyard of the Tucson Museum of Art Administration Building (directly east of the Museum Building! Look for the signs!)
