From Your TKMA Membership Guy – Teodoro “Ted” Ramirez /
Tucson’s Official Troubadour
TKMA’S 1st MEMBERSHIP CONCERT
Saturday, February 25, 2017, at the Presidio San Agustin Del Tucson, in downtown Tucson, Aspen Green, Bobby Ronstadt, Tom Potter and I, hosted our first TKMA Membership Song Circle gathering, it was an afternoon of wonderful music and friends.
We had many well-known musicians stop by for our first song circle: long-time Tucson musician Robert Lee Benton aka Bobby Benton became a new member and joined our circle singing a couple of great songs, Ellen Murphy Edmonson, daughter of Tucson folk legend Travis Edmonson (on her way to the Tucson Rodeo), stopped by and became a new member – we will be hearing more from her at future song circle gatherings.
Bobby Ronstadt and Tom Potter (both TKMA members in good standing) joined our song circle and graciously joined me for the concert portion of the afternoon’s festivities – they were absolutely fantastic! My grandson Andrew helped out with set up and sound for the concert.
In our song circle: Jim Dumbauld started us off with a fantastic tune and excellent mandolin playing, Ray Baker-Addy played a brilliant banjo rendition of “Turkey in The Straw” – Frank Alvarez sang the Johnny Cash classic “I walk the Line” and couple of great Mexican ballads. I sang “Blowing In The Wind” as part of the circle and a dust-devil sprang up – sending us all blowing in the wind!
Laurin Gaudinier sang a great version of “The Weight”, Andrew Hines played his guitar and let us know about his new House Concert Series in Catalina – for more info please email him at andrew@CatalinaConcerts.info.
The great Blaine McIntyre stopped by and became a new member, as did Liz and Russ Healy joining us in the circle too – Russ played beautiful flute and accordion (he played a killer O’odham accordion piece that just floored me, Liz adding her beautiful vocals & harmony to our circle!
Jennie Dodd joined in with lots of smiles and support, and my dear friends Edward Audi, Susan Schindehette stopped by to listen and became new members, Bill Moeller captured and shared many special photos, as did Aspen Green (you will find many of their photos on facebook),
There were many more members (both old and new) who played and/or listened to the music on Saturday, I wish I could remember everyone’s name…. I promise to work on this, but please know, I most certainly remember your presence and truly appreciate your support.
Thank you TKMA members (both old and new) – thank you for helping make our first song circle a fun and successful event!
I owe a great big thank you to the Amy Hartmann-Gordon Executive Director of the Presidio San Agustin Del Tucson and the Presidio volunteers and staff for having us – what a great place to gather and play music! The Presidio San Agustin Del Tucson will be the location of a TKMA stage for this year’s Tucson Folk Festival in May.
From here; I believe we will do our best to grow our circle and keep it strong. We will do this by keeping it fun and rewarding for the entire TKMA membership. We’ll have another “TKMA Song Circle” very soon, so please sign up for the TKMA newsletter and receive all the latest information and, if you are not a TKMA member, please visit our website www.TucsonFolkFest.org to renew or become a new member! Please feel free to contact me at firstname.lastname@example.org with any questions you may have.
My gratitude to all the TKMA board members and TKMA volunteers who work behind the scenes and make events like this possible.
Thank you all!
